The Archbishop Of Owerri Catholic Diocese, Archbishop Anthony Obinna, has advised the people of Imo State to endure hunger for once and vote for the right candidate who will lead Imo State with the fear of God.

He also fingered the ambition of desperate politicians as the root cause of the problem bedeviling the State.

The Archbishop advice is coming as there are fears that voters choice of candidates during elections are swayed by politicians who induce them with money

Speaking while receiving the leadership of the Amalgamation of Imo Professional Bodies (AIPA), an assemblage of various socio cultural, professional and religious bodies in Imo State, the Prelate made it clear that he has no preferred candidate ahead of the elections.

He backed AIPA on its bold step in uniting various socio cultural, religious and professional groups in the State for the enthronement of good governance.  

He said “Desperate politics is what put Imo into this explosion today. I appreciate the amalgamation and their well thought out template for the selection of next Imo Governor, it is my hope that the masses will endure hunger for once and vote the right candidate who will lead with the fear of God. We shall be presenting the 2019 election to God and offer special prayers to him for a free and fair and peaceful election, I have no preferred candidate. You have my blessings”.

Earlier,  the leader of the delegation, Chief Emeka Diwe thanked the Archbishop for granting them audience and told the Prelate that the various groups under the Amalgamation came together to fight for the soul of Imo to be retrieved from selfish politician. He noted that the quest for good governance by all the groups led them to an unconscious assemblage which has strengthened them for a united action beginning with the 2019 election in Imo, insisting that Imo people will choose the best among the candidates, irrespective of his political party.

The Director of Public Communication of the Amalgamation, Chief Martin Opara thanked the Archbishop for backing the Amalgamation through the JDPC. 

Present at parley were the Diocesan Director, JDPC, Rev. Fr. Gerald Njoku PhD, Rev. Fr. Prof Philip Ogbonna, NBA Chairman,  Barr. Damian Nosike, Elder Lambert Ojukwu of the Independent Newspaper Publishers,  Chief Monday Ikokwu, Secretary of Imo Indigenous Town Unions, Dr Mrs Uche Moneke for the Academia,  Chief Martin Opara of Olu Owerri, Comr Isidore Chukwuemeka of the NYCN,  Barr Madukaji Igwe,  Engr Samuel Nwokeocha, Lady Irene Ukanwa,  Dr Chukwudi Kaduru of the Nigerian Medical Association,  Elder Chukwukere of Orluzurumee as well as the NAISS president in Imo.
