Tension In Imo, APC,AA Mobilize Supporters For Buhari’s Owerri Rally

Political tension is raising its head again in Imo State ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the State on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in continuation of his nationwide campaign tour.

The anxiety is heightening following indications that supporters of the All Progressive Congress, APC and the Action Alliance, AA are set to attend the rally which may be a recipe for chaos.

The two parties had clashed at an APC rally for women and youths held at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri three weeks ago and attended by wife of the President, Aisha Buhari who was represented by wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osibanjo.

The Action Alliance, AA and the All Progressive Congress, APC have become political cat and mouse in Imo State in recent times after Governor Rochas Okorocha son in law, Uche Nwosu who is the governorship candidate of the AA, lost the APC governorship ticket to Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Since then, it has been a battle of wits between the two parties. Ahead of the President’s visit, the APC said it is mobilizing its members across the State to receive the President. Most of its supporters contend that the rally for Mr. President is strictly an APC affair thus the AA or any other political party has no business to be at the event.

A statement signed by Cajetan Duke, Head New Media, Hope Uzodinma campaign organization, stated that all members of thee APC across the State were invited at the rally to be held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri where the President is expected to present the party’s flag to the governorship candidate of the party.

Action Alliance, AA in the State however think otherwise insisting that President Buhari remains its adopted Presidential candidate.

Last week at the flag off of its governorship campaign in the State, Uche Nwosu announced one million votes for the President in the State during the Presidential and National Assembly election scheduled to hold on February 16, 2019 election.

The party’s governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu on Monday said it will mobilize 100,000 voters for the President.

A statement signed FCC Onwusonya Jones, said “The visit of the President to Imo State is another opportunity for the Action Alliance in Imo State to practically show the President that we were not joking when we gave him a post-dated cheque for 1,000,000 votes, which he will cash on the 16th of February, 2019.
