Senator Samuel Anyanwu has distanced himself from the Imo PDP campaign Council recently constituted by the party ahead of the 2019 governorship election.

Anyanwu represents Owerri zone in the senate.

In a statement signed by Fabian Ihekweme on behalf of the Senator, Anyanwu said it is inconceivable for the Senator to be a member of Campaign Council while he is still in court challenging the primary election that brought Emeka Ihedioha as the governorship candidate of the party in the State.

Part of the Statement reads “On behalf of the Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu Campaign Organization, the Divine Mandate Movement, I wish to clarify this aberration by stating the obvious facts, that Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu was neither consulted nor his opinion sought before he was co-opted into the PDP Campaign Council of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for Governor.

“Sen Sam Daddy Anyanwu has expressed shock and disappointment over this act of desperation and sheer insensitivity.

“When the Senator was drafted into the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, he was contacted and consulted accordingly and he has been discharging his responsibilities diligently.

“It is important to make this point clear, that Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu is still in the Court challenging the primary election that brought Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as the candidate of PDP.

“It is therefore, inconceivable for Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu to be a member of the Ihedioha Campaign Council while he is still in the Court challenging the said election.

“I have been directed therefore, to inform the general public that Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu has rejected in its entirety and hereby decline to function in anyway or manner as a member of Imo PDP Campaign Council for Ihedioha’s Governorship ambition.

“I remain very committed in our resolve to elect the former VP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Sen. Sam Daddy Anyanwu added

Anyanwu had accused Ihedioha of manipulating the governorship primary that made him the party’s governorship candidate.

This led to major division in the party when some party members loyal to the Senator announced their exit from the mainstream PDP to form Imo New PDP.
