Determined to ensure Owerri zone capture the seat of government in Imo State in 2019, a socio political organisation, Olu Owerri has commenced moves to ensure the zone does not continue to weep over its inability to produce Imo State Governor.

The meeting held behind closed doors in Owerri was attended by eight governorship candidates of Owerri zone extraction.

Among those in attendance include Okey Ezeh (SDP), Emeka Ihedioha (PDP), Humphrey Anumudu (Zenith Labour Party), Tony Nwulu (UPP) and others.

A source at the meeting said the initiative is a continuous exercise aimed at ensuring Owerri zone remain united in the quest to have Imo Governor in 2019.

Details of the meeting were sketchy as at press time.

In the past, Owerri zone had been unable to produce a Governor for the State. Lack of unity of purpose, division, incoherence among the candidates and stakeholders had consistently plagued the quest of the zone to succeed in this political adventure.

Owerri zone is the weeping child of the Imo political family. The last time it had a Governor was in 1992. Since then, Okigwe and Orlu zones had a field day.

Despite the rotation of office of the Governor of the three zones, Owerri zone had been unable to make a headway.

But sources told this newspaper that Olu Owerri is determined to ensure its success this time as it has put in place mechanism to ensure its success.
