The All Progressive Congress, APC Owerri Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Obinna Mbata, has thanked his numerous supporters within and outside the constituency for the support during the just concluded National Assembly elections.

Mbata lost the Reps seat to PDP candidate, Ikenna Elezianya.

In a statement, the former Imo State Finance Commissioner said there is no second place in the expensive game called elections.

His full Statement reads :

The 2019 general elections have come, and gone. It has been about 72 hours since the conclusion of the elections and most results have been declared. Of course, there are winners and there are losers. There is no 2nd place in the expensive gamble called elections!

Firstly, I want to use this medium and opportunity to thank our thousands of supporters within and outside Owerri Federal constituency. I am IMMENSELY grateful to members of the Obinna Mbata Campaign Organisation (OMCO): our coordinators at LGA, ward and booth levels, leadership and members of various structures, social and political organisations that threw their weight behind my aspiration for the Federal House for Owerri Federal Constituency.

I thank members of the clergy, and laity across various denominations. Friends, well wishers and thousands of folks whom I have come to know.

Many people of goodwill contributed their mite, substance and time. A lot supported with prayers and good wishes. I received numerous messages/calls of re(assurance). Of course I also thank the unbelievers, because in their unbelief and criticisms, our collective resolve to make a difference was made stronger.

We visited the 33 wards in the Federal constituency and many more places and saw regular/ordinary folks who were buoyed by the prospect of having someone who genuinely cared and understood and also willing to stand and be a voice for the ones who seem to have been left behind.

Your expectations shall never be cut short!

While we review the outcome and evaluate our options, I must say that it has been a most rewarding experience which has reinforced my belief that politics is about people; their wellbeing, development and success of the majority in achieving their expectations with purpose driven leadership and measurable achievements.

Though burdened by the weight of expectation of numerous people who seem to have pinned their hopes on the success of our venture, let me use this opportunity to reassure you all that I don’t take your expectations lightly.

We may not have succeeded presently, but I know the future holds brighter prospects.

I rejoice with our party, the APC on the success of our President and presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, in the presidential elections.

I also rejoice immensely with members of the Rescue Mission family- the ‘Perfect Alliance’ – in our electoral victories in several constituencies, of course ably led by the Generalissimo, His Exc. Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Senator-elect of Imo West Senatorial District!

Above all, I am grateful to God, whose name is Yahweh, the ever faithful one, for His mercies, blessings and grace without which I couldn’t have run the race.

The pursuit of excellence is my creed, a way of life, my ambition. I will abide by it, always.

Thank you!

Hon. Obinna Mbata, Esq.
