Anxiety In Imo, Parties Battle For Governorship

There is anxieety in Imo State five days to the governorship election.

Political parties and their candidates are in last minute effort to sway victory to their side. Campaigns have been ongoing in the hinterlands by the candidates.

The State has become a major spotlight in the country because of the intensity of the contest which has generated enormous attention and sometimes controversy.

More than 50 governorship candidates are heading to the polls with seven candidates showing renewed zeal and determination to clinch victory.

Candidates of the Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Accord Party, Ikedi Ohakim, All Progressive Congress, APC, Senator Hope Uzodinma, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, United Progressive Party, UPP candidate, Tony Nwulu, Social Democratic Party, SDP candidate, Okey Ezeh are major frontrunners in the contest.

The election has dominated public discourse. The Social Media abuzz has been with latest events of the candidates including verified and unverified information about the polls.

Who grabs the tape of victory is uncertain as political dynamics which shape such contest are very visible and active.

In 2011 and 2015 governorship elections, no winner emerged after the first ballot. It took supplementary elections for a winner to emerge. Analysts say such scenario is likely to play out again.

The State is tense with candidates in last minute effort to win the polls just as the political parties engaged in swift and aggressive campaigns which ends on Thursday, March 7.
