Media Consultant and former Chairman of Nigeria Union Of Journalists in Imo State, Chief Fidel Onyeneke has appealed to media Practitioners who would cover the governorship and State Assembly elections on Saturday this week, to exhibit high level of professional competence and civility as they carry out their duties.

Chief Onyeneke made the appeal in Owerri in a statement issued to Journalists.  He said that the journalists needed to be very diligent to their duties, and avoid any act that would make them play into the hands of politicians, thereby ridiculing the journalism profession.

He advised the media persons not to be partisan, but to cover the elections without sentiments and bias. He cautioned them against all forms of financial inducements, and to resist any thing that would make them to compromise during the elections.

The former NUJ Chairman stated that the integrity of the journalists was at stake, as the Nigerian public expected accurate and undoctored reportage from the media.

He  called for high level of synergy between the journalists and Media Practitioners as they covered the elections in various parts of Imo state and the country at large.

The media Consultant reminded the journalists of their primary responsibility to ensure that peace and tranquillity reigned supreme in the country both during and after the elections.

Chief Onyeneke urged INEC to factor the welfare and interest of the media Practitioners in all the necessary arrangements towards credible and successful elections in the country.

He also advised the various employers of the media Practitioners to equip them with the appropriate materials, tools and other logistics as they move into the field for election assignments.
