Okorocha Vs INEC: Judge Reveals Why He Withdrew From Matter

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja has said he withdrew from the case between Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, because of the petition of the PDP candidate in Imo West Senatorial election,Hon. Jones Onyeriri.

During Wednesday’s resumed proceedings on the matter, Justice Taiwo informed all parties involved that he would no longer entertain the case because of the PDP candidate’s petition. He said he would transfer the case back to the Chief Judge to re assign the matter.

It would be recalled that Governor Okorocha had dragged INEC to court because of the refusal of the electoral commission to issue him a Certificate of Return. The Imo Governor, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/296/2019 stated that INEC lacked statutory powers to withhold his Certificate of Return.
