The Imo North Senatorial election which has been subject of intense controversy has led to the set up of a special committee by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to a press statement signed by Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, it stated that as follows ” The Commission also deliberated on the conduct of the Imo North Senatorial District election held on 23rd February, 2019 and  9th March, 2019.

“It noted a number of issues arising from the election and set up a Committee to look into them.

“The Committee is to ascertain the veracity of allegations of misconduct in the election. It is also to advise the Commission on whether its procedures were complied with by officials. The Committee is to submit its report on Wednesday 10th April 2019.”

It will be recalled that the results of the Imo North Senatorial election conduct in the six local government area (LGA) that comprise Okigwe Zone are yet to be announced and a winner declared.

Major contenders for the Okigwe Senatorial seat are Hon. Patrick Chinedu Ndubueze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
