2019 Polls: Imo Tops List Of Election Petition Cases

The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has revealed that Imo State, has the highest number of election petition cases in the country.

Justice Bulkachuwa who spoke in Abuja at the commencement of the Presidential election petition tribunal decried that ” no matter how well election is conducted, there are bound to be complaints.

She further revealed that only in Jigawa State that no election petition was filed.

She revealed that 78 panels have been empanelled to cover the Election tribunals in all States of the federation.

According to her, 6 different panels were constituted to hear a total of 76 petitions that came from the election petition tribunal in Imo State.

After the governorship election, several aggrieved candidates filed petitions in Imo to express their displeasure with the outcome of the governorship, National and State Assemblies election.

After the governorship election, candidates of the Action Alliance, AA, Uche Nwosu, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC, filed petitions at the Tribunal challenging the declaration of Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as winner of the March 9 governorship election.
