The National Industrial Court, sitting in Owerri has ordered Governor Rochas Okorocha to pay all outstanding salaries and Entitlements to Councillors he sacked in 2011.
The National Industrial Court upheld an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal ordering the State Governor. It ordered the Governor to comply with the payments in the next 60 days.
On assumption of office in June 2011, Okorocha sacked local government Chairmen and Councillors, an act that is unconstitutional.
Legal fireworks ensued with the Court of Appeal ruling in favour of the sacked Chairmen and Councillors which ruled for their reinstatement.
Despite the Order, the State Governor never complied. He rather ran the Councils with Transition Commitees in the last seven years and few months ago conducted fresh polls for the Councils.
