More fireworks is raging in the Imo State House of Assembly where 21 members of the House led by Hon.Chinedu Offor (Onuimo, AA) moved against the Speaker and Majority Leader, Acho Ihim and Lugard Osuji respectively.

The Offor led group has now asked Acho Ihim to resign in less than 24 hours or face impeachment.

This fresh threat is coming after the resignation of Deputy Speaker, Hon.Ugonna Ozuruigbo, who cited his membership of the House of Representatives as major reasons he quit the State Assembly.

However the Offor group is facing backlash from some quaters over its action by suspending the Speaker and Majority Leader outside plenary which put a question mark on the legality of its action.

The Executives is said to have rebuffed the action which has put the House in jeopardy just as the suspended Speaker is said to have kicked against Ozuruigbo’s resignation on the grounds that he should resign on the floor of the House and not on the internet.

One of the lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity said ” We wonder what the Offor group are up to. All the process they followed in its latest action were faulty.

“First they said they served an impeachment notice, later switched to suspension of the Speaker and now we hear they have told the Speaker to resign. Why all the merry go round.

“They seem to forget that their action did not follow the rules. Do you suspend the Speaker and Majority Leader through a press conference and outside plenary?

Meanwhile, the Offor group seem to be marching with their plans vowing to impeach the Speaker in next 24 hours if he fails to resign.

The group made up of 21members had suspended the Speaker alleging that he wanted to unilaterally recall the suspended 27 Local Government Chairmen without inputs from the lawmakers.
