Details have emerged on the fresh turbulence that has engulfed the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Imo State.
Last week in what appears a “coup d what” took place in the party when the State Chairman, Peter Ezeobi and two others were kicked out.
In his place a caretaker committee was constituted to replace the State Executive with the Chairman accused of several allegations including financial impropriety.
Speaking to members of the caretaker committee which was ratified by the National Working Committee, NWC, Araraume said party members must brace up to the new changes in the party. This sent signals that the hand of Esau may have twisted Mr. Ezeobi’s fate.
APGA in Imo State had crashed from its Olympian heights even before the governorship election after its primaries were marred in controversy which led to the exit of some of its governorship aspirants. The aggrieved aspirants dispersed to other political parties and even went to Court
This weakened it’s chances at the polls in Imo State with its governorship candidate, Araraume placing a distant third in the contest.
The fresh altercations in the party have been attributed to a cold war between the sacked State Chairman, Ezeobi and some forces in the party. Ezeobi opened up on Thursday alleging that Senator Araraume and others was after him saying his major sin was allowing Chief Edozie Njoku, a National Chairmanship aspirant to speak to the expanded Executive on his intentions to seek for the position of Chairman of the party.
He did not stop there. He accused the party’s National Chairman, Victor Oye of being part of the plot to unseat him for allowing his opponent speak to the State Expanded Executives. He said his explanation to Oye that Edozie was allowed to speak to the Exco was based on the need to provide a level playing ground to all aspirants, his explanations fell deaf ears.
Ezeobi in a statement further narrated reasons for being kicked out alleging that part of the reasons was his insistence not to sign prepared petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC against the electoral fraud perpetrated by the PDP and the Action Alliance, AA.
” I refused to sign based on the fact that I am not the maker and should not be allowed to prepare the petition myself
He said the allegations against him were all aimed at tarnishing his integrity and good reputation which he has maintained in religious circle, legal profession an the society.
” There is no prima facie evidence or case against their unsubstantiated and wicked allegations.
