The Acting Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedu Offor has revealed why 20 of his colleagues suspended the Speaker, Acho Ihim and Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji.

Offor said Ihim had consistently ignored parliamentary processes in running the Assembly stating that his action at the plenary at a session of the House on Wednesday was an insult on other lawmakers.

Ihim had during plenary read an apology letter from the suspended 27 Council Chairmen without calling for a vote from other lawmakers.

Objections were raised by the lawmakers which prompted the Speaker and the Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji, to adjourn. They left the House with the mace even after there was power cut.

Speaking to newsmen, Offor said the Speaker wanted to unilaterally recall the suspended Chairmen contrary to their resolution at the Executive session. He read a notice stating his appointment as Acting Speaker and Chukwuemeka Lyod as Majority Leader.

However, one of the lawmakers who opposed the suspension but spoke on condition of anonymity said both the Speaker, Acho Ihim and Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji, will not abdicate their positions on the grounds their suspension is not in consonance with the rules of the House.

” Do you impeach or suspend the Speaker and Majority Leader of a House of Assembly though a press conference. Where are these guys from? he asked our reporter
