Okorocha’s Certificate Of Return:Court Fix June 7 For Judgement

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Friday, June 7 for judgment on a suit filed by former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha wherein he challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC decision to withhold his Certificate of Return for Imo West Senatorial District.

In the suit, Okorocha said the Commission lacked the powers to withhold his Certificate of Return because he was validly elected to occupy the Senatorial Seat. He argued that INEC acted in error when it refused to recognise him as the winner of the Senatorial election, even after the Returning Officer had declared that he won the election.

Justice Okon Abang fixed the date for judgment for Friday, June 7 after hearing Okorocha’s lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN) and counsel representing other respondents

INEC had asked the court to dismiss the suit.

The Commission had withheld Okorocha’s Certificate of Return on the grounds that he was declared winner under dures
