Barring unforeseen circumstances, troubled Senators elect and their House of Representatives counterparts who are having issues with their Certificate of Return, will know their fate today as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is expected to make its position known on the matter.
The Commission is meeting in Abuja regarding judgements and orders issued or served on it from various Courts of law on issuance of Certificate of Return.
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha is among those in this category.
Last week, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided by Justice Okon Abang ordered the nation’s electoral umpire to release his Certificate of Return as winner of Imo West Senatorial election.
Yesterday pictures of the Imo State Governor holding what looked like a Certificate of Return surfaced on the social media. He distanced himself from the photographs.
News Agency of Nigeria, NAN quoted Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Voter Education to have said “the commission will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) regarding judgements and orders served on it from various Courts of law.
“The Commission has not taken any decision relating to the matter you alluded to. The commission may deal with all such issues and other pending ones tomorrow (Tuesday)
“National Commissioners supervising State level Review of the 2019 elections returned to Abuja on Monday to clear all pending judgments and orders before heading back to their states of supervision” Okoye said.
