As Nigerians await the announcement of new Ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari, some stakeholders in the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State are strongly opposed to former Governor Rochas Okorocha nominating a minister from the party in the State.
They argue that the next ministerial nominee from Imo State should not emerge from Okorocha’s camp on the grounds that he contributed to the downfall of the APC in the State.
They recalled how the party crashed as the ruling party in the State losing the governorship election to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and failed to win seat in the Imo State House of Assembly
In a statement signed by Mr.Kenneth Onyenucheya and made available to newsmen in Owerri, the group stated that Okorocha made nonsense of the APC in the last election in the State by working against the party by backing his son in law and Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, who vied for Imo governorship on the platform of Action Alliance, AA
They contended that Okorocha’s support for Nwosu was not just an anti party which in the long run did not only fectch him suspension from the APC, but affected the chances of the party in the State
“The chances of the APC in the last governorship election in Imo State was weakened by Okorocha who did not give full support to APC candidates in the last elections. Though the party fielded Senator Hope Uzodinma as it’s governorship flagbearer, the internal squabbles in the party feuled by Okorocha weakened the party in the State even before the general elections.
The stakeholders stated that since Okorocha is still facing suspension from the party, he should not be allowed to nominate a Minister from the State.
Part of the statement reads “We are of the view that one should not reap where he did not sow.
“Having worked against the party before the elections, he should not be the one to nominate a Minister from the party in Imo State.
“The APC will be encouraging illegality by allowing a party member who was suspended to choose a ministerial nominee.
The stakeholders advised President Muhammadu Buhari to consider appointing a minister who posses the political nerve to rebuild the party in the State.
” We need a minister that will roar the APC back to life in the State having suffered a colossal loss in the last general elections in the State.
“The APC needs to be revived in Imo and only one without political baggage, a new face that will earn the confidence of teeming party members in the State is what is needed to make the party work again in Imo.
