The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Imo State chapter, have vowed to assist Governor Emeka Ihedioha fish out over 5,000 workers illegally employed by the past government at the point of their exit from office.
The Union also admitted that they have felt the impact of governance in the last 30 days Governor Ihedioha assumed office, also promised to assist the Governor to reposition the State civil service.
Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Austin Chilkapu made the pledge when Executive members of the organised labour in the State visited the Governor at Government House, Owerri.
Speaking to the labour leaders, Governor Ihedioha said he met a labour force in the State so disjointed as a result of neglect and abuse carried out by the past administration.
He said ” I inherited a State where dignity of workers is questioned, where discipline is no longer an issue and morale of workers is at all time low. Under my watch, I will revive and resuscitate the Imo State work force and restore it’s lost glory”
Governor Ihedioha further expressed displeasure on the attitude of some workers who connive with corrupt Government functionaries to loot Government money and properties.
He warned that he will deal decisively with anyone caught in such act.
In his response, Chairman, NLC, Imo State, Comrade Austin Chilkapu, expressed gratitude to the Governor for restoring workers 100 percent salary in the State.
He also promised that Labour in the State will assist the Government to fish out ghost workers in the system.
The NLC leader also expressed the disapproval of the Union to the huge number of people hurriedly and illegally employed by the past administration few days to the expiration of their tenure, assuring that they will assist in fishing them out.
Mr.Chilakpu also appealed to the State Governor to confirm the employment of those employed in the State Work force since 2017 in accordance with civil service rules.
