INEC Opens Up On Elections In Imo

For the first time after the 2019 elections, the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Francis Ezeonu, has spoken on the conduct of elections held in the State.

He gave the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Imo State pass mark on the recent concluded elections assuring that the Commission will not relent in improving in the next election.

Speaking at an award of honour bestowed on him by Forum of Imo Newspaper Editors (FINE) in collaboration with Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ in Owerri,Ezeonu said the Commission performed creditably during the last elections.

He said the success of the elections could not have been possible without the media

“INEC did well in the last elections. And the media helped in changing the narrative in Imo State” Ezeonu said.

He said the Commission had after the elections conducted an in house appraisal and was satisfied with its outcome.

He said the Commission had begun internal programmes to improve on the next elections, revealing that soon the Commission will engage the media to chart the way forward.

He thanked the NUJ and FINE for the award which he described as a rare honour.

The event was witnessed by Executives of NUJ led by Chief Chris Akaraonye, editors and some journalists in the State.
