Why EFCC Invited Ex Imo Assembly Members

BY CAJETHAN DIKE

Details has surfaced why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC invited members of the 7th Imo State House of Assembly.

The anti graft commission is reportedly investigating former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

One of the former lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the invitation by the anti graft agency, revealing that they are due to visit the Commission on Wednesday, 21st August 2018.

He however said the invitation is not relative with the investigation of the former Governor of the State.

“It is true we have been invited. The whole thing has to do with a particular member who was re- elected in the present House but somehow we are being brought into the picture

“By the contents of what we have, the invitation is based on section 38 1 and 2 which has to do with movable and immovable assets and seized properties.

“To the best of our knowledge, there is no petition on me on stolen funds and I believe it is so for some of the outgone members.

“One of the lawmakers who was actually fingered in the entire saga is at the centre of the entire drama and he wants to bring us into it. This should be clearly understood.

However, newspaper reports in Owerri had indicated that the invitation has to do with an alleged N455 million naria largesse to the lawmakers by the former Governor of the State, Rochas Okorocha.

The EFCC had last month pounced on properties of the former Governor in several locations across the State.

Okorocha had accused his successor, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of spearheading the ongoing investigation by the EFCC alleging that the Governor is witchunting him.

Ihedioha had last week dismissed Okorocha’s allegations, saying the innocent has nothing to fear.

He had constituted two Judicial Commissions of Inquiry on Land deals and award of contracts beginning from the period former Governors Achike Udenwa, Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha held sway.
