There is confusion in Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over reports of the suspension of immediate past senator representing Imo East Senatorial zone, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
A local tabloid in Owerri had on Tuesday reported that the Senator was sacked from the party by his Amaimo ward.
The State chapter of the party is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
Senator Anyanwu had vied for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State. He lost to Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who won the governorship primary and later the governorship election.
Anyanwu went to court to challenge the process. The Supreme Court over ruled him.
Countering his suspension from the party, the Ikeduru Local government chapter of the party said in a statement that “As a Senator, and a member of the Zonal, State and National Executive Committees respectively, NO ORGAN of the party except the National Executive Committee (NEC) has the powers to discipline a Senator as stated in section 27:1; section 57 chapter 10, Sub section 7 and section 57 sub section 3.
“Therefore, the purported indefinite suspension of Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu (Samdaddy) is null and void and of no effect.
“The party at the Local Government will no longer tolerate this type of usurping of power any longer”´the party stated in a statement signed by Snr. Deacon Innocent Ofurum. LGA Party Chairman and Hon. Martins Nwachukwu, LGA Party Secretary.
