Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State, on Wednesday gave reasons why he delayed the appointment of his Commissioners.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the Commisioners held at Ahiajoku Centre, Owerri, he said the need to rationalise the Ministries were some of the reasons for the delay.

” Some might ask why it has taken us this time to appoint Commissioners. My answer is simple, firstly, was the need to rationalise the Ministries we met on ground, which numbered a whopping 31, with designations that ranged from the unnecessary to the absurd.

” I am glad to say that we have reduced this number to a functional 18″ Ihedioha said

He said during the period of campaigns, he realised the need to populate the rebuild Imo team with persons of stellar quality and proven Intergrity

” We recognised the need to have competent persons as appointees to share the mantle of leadership with. With the successful screening of our nominees as Commissioners Designate by the Imo State House of Assembly, we have now completed a major part of our team jigsaw”

He read a riot act to the new Commissioners.

He said ” Having been chosen, from amongst millions of young experienced Imolites and beyond, you must therefore be commiteed and fair in the discharge of your duties. You must be a team player and eschew corruption. I will not hesitate to replace you.

He said a Governance Delivery unit has been set up to set key Performance Indicators to periodically measure their performance.
