Local Government supervisory councillors in Imo State who went to Court to demand payment of their benefits and entitlements have suspended further legal action on the matter.

They were among elected Local Government Chairmen and Councillors sacked by the outgone administration of Rochas Okorocha in 2010.

They pledged their support to Governor Emeka Ihedioha whom they described as a family member on that grounds resolved to discontinue legal action. The Councillors expressed hope that the matter would be settled out of court.

Mr.Chukwudi Amadi, spokesman of the supervisory councillors (Owerri municipal) said that negotiations have began with the State Government on the grounds that the government has shown commitment in settling the matter out of court.

“Our case against the government is very strong. Our total benefits after our illegal dissolution in 2011 by Okorocha run into billions. We have judiciously pursued our matter through the courts and presently at the Supreme Court.

” We are likey going to get favourable judgment at the Supreme Court but Ihedioha is our own. We served under the PDP Government of His Excellency, Dr.Ikedi Ohakim and what we have today is a PDP Government. So it’s a family affair and we won’t want to add further stress to the Government of the day” he said.
