Imo Govt Speaks On Paying Pensioners After Years Of Neglect

Certified Pensioners in Imo State will get their due this week as the Emeka Ihedioha administration fulfils one of its core campaign promises which is to settle the pensions of pensioners ignored by the past administration.

Governor Ihedioha had held a special session last week with the pensioners after his administration had concluded a verification exercise designed to ascertain authentic pensioners in the State.

The State Ministry of Information in a statement by the Commissioner, Emeka Ebiliekwe on Sunday, said the State government is now ready to pay the pensioners ” having completed all necessary and verification and biometric revalidation of pensioners by the Imo Pension Verification Committee, as prelude to payment of pension to the senior citizens of the State”

He said the State government is set to begin disbursement this week, according to the State Accountant General.
