The Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, has said the reported alliance between opposition forces in the State against Governor Emeka Ihedioha, will backfire.
Newspaper reports in Owerri had claimed that governorship candidates of the Action Alliance, AA, Uche Nwosu and that of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, and other opposition elements in the State, are forming formidable opposition against the Ihedioha administration.
The IAC, a political study/lobby group in the State, had recently promised to reach out to opposition forces in the State to sheath sword and support the Ihedioha administration. How far it has gone to achieve this mission is yet to deciphered.
Details of the alliance were sketchy but reports claimed that part of the deal entails Uche Nwosu dropping his ambition to support Araraume in a re run election in the event the Appeal Court quash Ihedioha’s victory at the governorship election.
The Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had affirmed Ihedioha as Governor, Imo State, citing lack of merit in petitions filed against Ihedioha by Senator Araraume, Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress, APC and Uche Nwosu.
Reacting to the proposed alliance, Mr. Emmanuel Okwu, leader of the Imo Awareness Coalition, said it is ill timed and primed to fail.
“If the opposition is coming together with the sole aim to pull down the administration of Governor Ihedioha, which was overwhelmingly elected by the people of the State, then it will fail.
“They will gather but they shall scatter. Opposition anchored on pulling down a government duly elected by the people will not stand the test of time. The proponents of this political gang up should weigh their actions before they take a leap.
“Such gang up in the name of an Alliance has never worked out in Imo State.
“Senator Araraume should not allow his desperation to be Governor to make him forget the past so early in the day.
“The alliance he is alleged to have entered into with Uche Nwosu is a replica of the same alliance he had entered into with Nwosu’s father in law, Rochas Okorocha in 2015, when the latter was desperate to return to office a second term as governor.
“The end result of that alliance which was to Araraume’s detriment is enough lesson the Senator should not forget in a hurry.
“There is no difference between the old and new alliance Okorocha/Nwosu camp are extending to Araraume, except a change in format and approach of the alliance.
“Senator Araraume aided Okorocha to return to office as Governor for a second term in 2015 and things fell apart between the duo much later” he stated
He said Imolites are tired of old political horses recycling themselves and parading as opposition leaders.
“For credible opposition to stand the test of time, it has to be new and fresh with new innovations that truly reflects the face genuine opposition
“Who are the faces of this opposition in Imo State? The same faces that we have all seen in the last 20 years in the State? The same perennial election seekers, serial governorship aspirants?
“They are not the credible opposition that we seek for. When we see credible opposition, we will know.
Reacting to a question if the IAC will proceed with its intention to reach out to opposition leaders in the State, he said the Coalition has not foreclosed the option.
