There is brewing confusion in the ruling  Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State as the political fate of Chairmen of Interim Management Committees, who are running the local government councils in caretaker capacity, remains uncertain.

Rumours had it that the IMC chairmen during their inauguration in June were allegelly “barred” from transmuting into elected Council Chairmen.

There has been no official confirmation or refutal of these claims from credible sources within government circles and the ruling party, PDP.

This newspaper observed that most of the IMC Chairmen are rooting to take part in the planned local government election in the State in December, though none of them has officially joined the fray or publicly indicated such intention.

Another verified source said they are “scheming for extension of their time in office beyond the six months alloted to them”

Some of the IMC Chairmen approached for comments on this development kept sealed lips, stating that their priority at the moment is to aid Governor Emeka Ihedioha to realize the core objectives of the Rebuild Imo agenda at the grassroots.

Last week, Governor Ihedioha visited some local governments where he inspected projects executed by Chairmen of the Interim Management Committees, IMC

The PDP seems to be dilemma over this development, as aspirants seeking to be Chairmen of the local governments keep on echoing the  rumour that the IMC chairmen are not “eligible” to contest. The party is yet to officially react to these insinuations.

But a party chieftain who spoke on condition of anonymity said the process of electing the party’s candidates for Chairmanship will be open, free, fair and devoid of imposition.

” We won elections in Imo State on the altar of credible primaries which had no room for imposition. We will go through that same process when the time comes” he said
