Appeal Court Upholds Imo PDP Lawmaker’s Victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri has declared Owerri West House of Assembly member, Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi as duly elected to represent the area in the Imo State House of Assembly.

The Election Petition Tribunal had earlier affirmed his victory at the polls, after ruling against the petition filed by APC House of Assembly candidate Noble Atulegwu Abiaso

Delivering his judgement, Justice R. C Agbo who dismissed the petition maintained that a contestant that came a distant third in the said election cannot claim to be winner.

He struck out the petition challenging the victory of PDP’s Kanayo Onyemaechi, citing lack of merit in the petition.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the Appeal Court ruling, Onyemaechi described the judgement as victory for the entire Owerri -West who gave him their overwhelming support.
