Hon.Emeka Diwe is a colossus, an enigma, respected for his fiery views and no holds barred disposition. An unrelenting promoter of grassroots development in Igboland, and widely respected for being an advocate against bad governance and irresponsible leadership.

Many can attest how Diwe mobilized civil society groups and organizations under the aegis of Amalgamation of Imo Professionals Association, AIPA, to checkmate anti people policies of the past administration in Imo State. AIPA also hugely contributed to the enthronement of the current administration in the State.

That is vintage Diwe- a man of steel, an advocate of peoples power and an unrepentant champion of Igbo unity and progress. Little wonder his name popped up when Imo State was announced to produce the next leader of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, a post which many attest suits him considering his full grasp of issues affecting Igbo nation.

Chief Emeka Diwe has not held any public office; though he had aspired to represent Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He leads Orlu Zuru mee, the pan Orlu socio political organization, that has consistently dictated the political and socio economic direction of Orlu zone for decades.

Diwe has also proved to be an outstanding grassroots mobilizer who understands the relevance and power of Town Unions in the socio economic development of Igbo nation.

* Reinventing the efficacy of Town Unions has been Diwe’s mantra, his sing song, as he had led an association of Town Unions in Imo State, before galvanizing the entire Town Unions in the South East. All this attest to his burning passion for the good of the Igbo nation”.

Reinventing the efficacy of Town Unions has been Diwe’s mantra, his sing song as he had led The Indigenous Imo Town Unions (IITU) before galvanizing the entire Town Unions in the South East under one umbrella.

Diwe’s IITU had waded into farmers/herdsmen crisis in the South East, vowing that if the Federal Government fails to take proactive measures to secure the lives and properties of those in Igboland, people would be forced take to traditional self defense mechanisms to avoid destruction of lives and property by attackers.

IITU’s statement signed by Diwe had read thus “One of the primary duty and obligation a reasonable and caring government owed to its people is protection of life and properties. It follows that where the government fails in this important duty, the citizens will be left with no other option than to reactivate traditional self defense approach to avoid being destroyed or exterminated by the invaders or attackers,”

All these attest to Diwe’s burning passion for the good of the Igbo nation.

He holds the keys to the grassroots in the South East having successfully established the Association of South East Town Union, ASETU, an assemblage of all Town Union Presidents across the region. ASETU has proved to be an effective platform for all Town Union Presidents in the South East and a powerful tool for grassroots unity in Igboland.

The relevance of Town Unions in the socio political development of Igbo nation had ebbed after the civil war as over the years they paled into insignificance and were unceremoniously sidelined out of contemporary issues affecting Igbo nation.

Aside the Late Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria’s First President whose Zikist Movement sharpened Igbo renaissance, Diwe’s ASETU has towed similar path by providing the needed platform for the Town Unions in the South East to come together and promote Igbo Unity particularly at a time Igbo nation is at cross roads of its political future”.

But Diwe came to the rescue and has become a vital component of the Igbo nation which was on the verge of extinction. He successfully changed the sorry narrative about Town Unions in Igboland by setting up ASETU,  which has rediscovered and reinvented the relevance of  Town Unions in the socio political development of Igbo nation.

Diwe has shown charm and panache. He has continuously demonstrated an uncommon passion to re invent Igbo unity, using the Town Unions as an arrow head. ASETU has not just proved to be a rallying point, but a driving and motivational force that has become an effective tool for grassroots development committed to the advancement in Igboland.

Reinventing the Town Unions is Diwe’s major identity and the hands of history will so kind to remember him for achieving such a noble feat.
