There is tension in Imo State over plans by suspended local government chairmen under former Governor Rochas Okorocha to take over the councils.

The state government will hear none of that.

Uche Onyeagocha, Secretary to the State Government, in a statement Sunday, said the Imo State Government, “will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on suspended local Government Chairmen and Councilors and agents of the past administration in the State who intend to disturb the peace and tranquility enjoyed by the people of the State”

He did not stop there.

He went on to say that “All persons caught trying to disturb the peace of the State in any Local Government, will be promptly arrested and prosecuted as criminals in accordance with the Law. Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Community Leaders and Parents are hereby advised to warn their wards not to allow themselves to be used by disgruntled politicians who are not happy about the peace and development currently put in place by the present administration.

The Imo Awareness Coalition, advised the suspended Council Bosses “to allow the Court processes to run to its conclusion but are rather threatening to resort to lawlessness.

According to Fidelis Echendu. Publicity Secretary of the group who spoke to our correspondent, he said resort to lawlessness by the suspended Chairmen will not augur well for the State and capable igniting undue tension which could lead to unwarranted chaos in the State.
