There may be hope for suspended Local Government Chairmen in Imo State if ongoing events in Oyo State is anything to go by.
Reports say that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has directed the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr.Shina Olukolu, to take actions to implement the legal opinion of the Attorney General of the Federation on the sacked local government Chairmen in the State.
The IG was also reported to have written a letter to Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshiloye, Chairman of the dissolved ALGON, urging the sacked ALGON Chairmen to liaise with the CP to facilitate smooth take over of the local government areas.
Last week, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami reportedly advised the Oyo State State government to reinstate democratically elected Council Chairmen that were sacked and dissolved last year by the State Governor, Mr.Seyi Makinde.
In Imo State, a similar scenario is in place.Suspended local government Chairmen and Councillors are demanding return to office.
They were sacked by former Governor Emeka Ihedioha through a resolution of the Imo State House of Assembly.
The Chairmen elected during the reign of former Governor Rochas Okorocha had attempted to take over the Councils by force early this year citing the Judgement of the Supreme Court which ordered the reinstatement of Council Chairmen in Ekiti State.
The forceful take over failed as they were resisted by then transition committee Chairmen appointed by the Ihedioha administration.
There hopes were raised again when the Supreme Court removed Emeka Ihedioha as Governor and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma as rightful Governor.
Uzodinma has however directed the Directors of Administration and General Services, DAGS to take over the running of the affairssince of the council vowingto hold fresh Council election soon.
One of the suspended Chairmen who spoke to this anonymity expressed concern why the AG suggestion which is being implemented in Oyo State is not replicated in Imo State.
He claimed that there is a similar letter from the AG which dwelt on reinstating his colleagues as Council Chairmen in the State.
