Nine members of the Imo State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC. They were formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Action Alliance, AA.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Okey Onyekanma, also resigned in what appears a dramatic move in the State legislature following the ouster of Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as Governor, and the declaration of Senator Hope Uzodinma of the APC by the Supreme Court, as duly elected governor of the State.

All the decampee lawmakers are from Orlu zone, the zone of Governor Hope Uzodinma. Assembly sources said the nine lawmakers of PDP extraction yet to defect to the APC are from Owerri zone.

Among those who defected include Hon Duru Johnson (member representing Ideato South), Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu (member representing Nwangele state constituency), Hon. Ekene Nnodmuele (member representing Orsu state constituency), Hon Obinna Okwara (Nkwerre State constituency) and Hon Paul Emeziem of Onuimo State constituency, Authur Egwim (Ideato North), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (Okigwe), Heclus Okoro (Ohaji/Egbema).

The speaker, Collins Chiji, read their letters of defection on Tuesday.
