Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has been advised to sustain some of the laudable policies of the past administration of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Tony Nwulu, who gave the advise in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, said there is need for Governor Hope “ to focus on the core needs and policies already began by the immediate past administration”.

Nwulu had vowed to lead a street protest in Owerri if Governor Uzodinma fails to live up to the expectations of the people of the State

He said “Government is a continuum. In the long run, it is really about the people and not about personalities in power

“Some areas Governor Uzodinma ought to sustain are IPOREA, a Power Agency set up by the past government. This is key in restoring power in most of the suburbs in Imo State. This is laudable and should be retained.

“Rehabilitation of Otammiri Water project is also key. Water was already running in some parts of Owerri after the rehabilitation of the water project by the past administration.

“The health Insurance Scheme kick started by the past government which made health affordable to families in the state should be sustained

He continued “He should also sustain the Ease of Doing Business concept introduced by the past government. I know there was a Desk that was created for this. This initiative will foster international partnership with foreign partners with the State.

“Governor Uzodinma should take a look at the 60 million dollar Afri Exim Bank investment conceptualized by the past government and sustain it.

He also suggested a monthly media parley between the state government and the media.

He suggested “a monthly or bimonthly parley with the media community and a review of their welfare through a bill to re- evaluate the standard of the practice

“Media partnership is essential in enhancing the image of the State to attract Foreign Direct Investment to the state.

He called for rehabilitation of State owned, Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Owerri and the need to enhance the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Heartland, Owerri

For the less privileged, Nwulu advised a state social welfare system for the Disabled.

He suggested the introduction of   “Hardship Aid” by the State government, to pay families living with Disability the sum of N5,000

“Women should be included more in governance and the establishment of Imo Diaspora Commission as recommended by Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs, Abike Dabiri, should be pursued with vigour by the new Governor.
