Emulating Governor Umara Zulum Of Borno State (EDITORIAL)

Recently photos surfaced on the internet, showing Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, rewarding a teacher in a primary school in Maiduguri, Borno State, Mrs. Obiageli Mazi.

According to reports, Mrs Obiageli was rewarded by the Governor with the sum of N100,000 and promoted to an Assistant Headmistress of the school for reporting early to work.

Mrs Obiageli is said to hail from Abia State, South East Nigeria.

This is not the first time Governor Zulum has been in the news for good reasons. He was reported to have appointed Igbos in his administration.

Recently, the Borno State Governor was also sighted in a traditional wedding event fully decked in Igbo traditional attire in Anambra State.

We commend Governor Zulum for recognising the efforts of Mrs Obiageli, whom after putting in 32 years of meritorious service as a teacher was never promoted.

The Governor has indeed qualified as a true patriot, a pan Nigerian who believes all Nigerians are one irrespective of tribe and tongue.

Governor Zulum’s reward to Mrs Obiageli is a wake up call to our authorities to reinvent the age long practice of rewarding excellence and hardwork.

There are many Obiagelis who have not been rewarded despite their toil and broil in various layers of service to the country.

The Borno State Governor has also by this singular action rekindled hope in the tenets of one Nigeria as envisioned by the nation’s founding fathers.

He has also strongly demonstrated he is a firm believer in one indivisible Nigeria which encourage Nigerians to feel free to live freely and happily in any part of the country.

This newspaper salutes Mr.Zulum’s for showing us that he is indeed a detribalized Nigerian whose action is worthy of emulation to those who fan the embers of hate and discord in the country and who have continuously widened the gulf between the North and the South East.
