Imo PDP, Decampee Lawmakers Set For Showdown

By: JANE UKONU

Fireworks are expected in the coming days in the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State over the switch over of some of its members in the State House of Assembly, to the All Progressive Congress, APC.

INNONEWS was reliably informed that the PDP in the State is preparing legal onslaught against its decampee State lawmakers.

The PDP shrunk from majority to minority party in the Imo State House of Assembly when more than nine of it’s members including the Speaker jumped over to the APC.

They decamped after the Supreme Court removed Ihedioha of the PDP as Governor and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the APC as duly elected Governor of the State.

After the move by the lawmakers, the party’s national leadership declared the lawmakers seat vacant and vowed to use legal means to unseat them.

Our findings reveal that indeed legal framework has been put in place by the party leadership in the State to commence the process of retaking the seats of the affected lawmakers.

But one of the decampee lawmakers who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity said he is unperturbed over plans by his former party to challenge his defection in court

“For me, I am not bothered. I left the PDP because the party became a house whose foundation began to collapse.

“The walls were cracking and when a House begins to crack, the next thing imminent is collapse.

” I will not remain in a house that is on the verge of collapse.

“The reasons for my defection are not far fetched. The party is in crisis. The party chairman resigned. That tells you all is not well in the party anymore.

“I made consultations before I left the party. I have the mandate of my constituents to leave the PDP because we will not reap the dividends of democracy if we fail to align with the party in power.

“If they want to challenge my defection in court, I m ready for them..

But top party officials in the State insisted that they will not let go insisting the House members who decamped will be unseated

” We will pursue this matter with every legal channel available to us.

“You can’t just abandon a party that conveyed you to your present status and you expect us to keep quite.

” There is no crisis in PDP in Imo State, the party chairman resigned on his own. Will you say because he resigned that signifies crisis in the party ?
