Worried by a misleading video alleging an endorsement of an aspirant forthe yet to be declared vacant seat of Okigwe Senatorial zone by 4 out of over 140 traditional rulers of the area, Okigwe zone traditional Rulers council have disassociated itself from such endorsement,describing it as misleading and a desperate cheap blackmail against the reverred institution.
The traditional rulers said this is part of their resolutions at an emergency meeting held on Sunday at Wisdom Palace, Ihim in Isiala Mbano Council area of Imo state and presided by HRH Eze Oliver Ohanweh ( Obi Gburu Gburu) .
The traditional rulers frowned over the use of their forum in circulating a misleading endorsement video of a senatorial aspirant by few traditional rulers who don’thave their mandate for such an action.
The reverred monarchs reinstated their resolve henceforth not to be part of any meeting or consultation for the replacement of Senator Benjamin Uwajiogu until after the Senator’s funeral and mourning period as it is culturally wrong to do so when the deceased is still in the morgue.
According to them ” We have therefore, vehemently disassociated ourselves from any such purported endorsement of any aspirant for the vacant senatorial seat and stated that at no time did any traditional ruler of Okigwe extraction went and “ begged” any of it’s son or daughter to come out and contest as we are still mourning and the Federal Government is yet to declare the seat vacant” they stated.
The traditional rulers also advised politicians of the senatorial zone to desist from luring traditional rulers into “undo”politics, noting that doing so is pitching them against the good people of Okigwe both home and abroad.
The Royal Father’s passionately appealed to Okigwe sons and daughters who have been disturbed by the purported “ endorsement and begging” by Ndieze saying that, it is deliberate and calculated cheap black mail .
The monarchs reassured the good people of Okigwe that they can never use their privileged position as the custodians of their cultural and traditional heritages to bring shame and dishonour to them being mindful of the fact that their zone have array of very qualified professionals who are free to run for any seat in Nigeria whenever the time is ripe.
According to them “What concerns Okigwe people now is brotherly love, unity and peace, that will help in chosing patriotic and disciplined person to represent them in the Red Chambers when the time comes” they assured.
