In a statement signed by Chris Akaraonye, Chairman of the Union, he said March 6, 2020 marked the first anniversary of the present executives of Nigeria Union of Journalists in the State

He expressed gratitude to Imo journalists for their support to the executive.

His statement reads:

“March 6, 2020 marked the first anniversary of the present Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council.

“We most sincerely thank God for making this possible and express our profound gratitude to Imo journalists for their support to the executive. You have been very wonderful.

“We urge you not to relent in your efforts to ensure that Imo council will continue to move forward and also record more successes.

“On our part, we assure you that we shall give the union to the journalists who owns the union as we have started accreditation of members before any congress which has given way to identifying the real journalists in the state.

“The council has set up an Ethics and Disciplinary Committee to handle all cases of indiscipline and unethical behaviour of members in the union. This has helped in curtailing the activities of quacks in our union.

“The council has prioritised the welfare of Imo journalists and in no distance time the dividend will start manifesting and will be sustained.

“We also use this opportunity to once more felicitate with His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma and his Deputy Prof. Placid Njoku for the reaffirmation of their election as Governor and Deputy Governor of Imo State respectively by the Supreme Court.

“The council has had a long standing good relationship with Gov.Uzodinma, and it is on record that the Hummer Bus His Excellency donated to the council is still the only mobility the council has now.

“We once more reassure Imo Journalists that their interest will always be protected and solicit their continual cooperation so that our council will remain a very vibrant one.
