Imo State is nearing a lockdown despite no reported case of the coronavirus pandemic in the State.
Governor Hope Uzodinma had ordered the closure of schools last week and recently, announced closure of all markets in the State.
He has just announced ban on all public gatherings, including burials, open worship by churches and mosques.
According to him, all public servants except essential workers have been directed to stop work indefinitely.
As part of measures of containing the pandemic in the State, the State Ministry of Health will train and deploy community health workers to sensitize remote communities.
Other measures include Government will massively deploy hand sanitizers to all communities, through traditional rulers, and, all entry/exit points will be barricaded and be manned by combined team of security agents.
The measures came after the Commitee on prevention and control of Coronavirus in the State announced that there is no reported case of the pandemic in the State.
Meanwhile, panic buying continued among Owerri residents at the weekend with prices of goods soaring high.
