There is uncertainty over the headship of a prevention and control committee on coronavirus set up by the Imo State government to control the spread of the pandemic in the state.
There is no reported or confirmed case of the virus in the State.
On Monday, the social media was abuzz with reports that Prof Maurice Iwu, who heads the committee has resigned and rather sought for an “advisory role”
Iwu had last week said there is no case of coronavirus in the state, as the committee has put in place measures to check the spread of the virus in the State.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, he said “We are prepared to take any proactive measure. Henceforth, wash your hands with soap and water; wash frequently after having contact with people, use sanitizers when there is no water.
Mr. Iwu could not be reached to speak on the news of his resignation and he is yet to issue a statement to dispel or confirm the report of his resignation.
But the Imo state government however made it clear that Prof Iwu remains Chairman of the Committee.
A statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Oguwuike Nwachuku, said it is not true that Prof Iwu has resigned as Chairman, Imo State Covid 19 Prevention and Control Commitee.
