By David Uka, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Virology Centre, has commenced testing for the coronavirus pandemic, as eight suspected cases  from the State were examined at the centre, which all tested negative and would be discharged accordingly.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Umezuruike Daniel who  disclosed this to newsmen in Abakaliki, said that already samples have been received from Abia and Enugu states.

On the establishment of the Centre, the commissioner noted that already the state had a virology centre, with all the equipment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

He however noted that thus far, all the referrals have tested negative.

“So the Federal Government through the NCDC brought the test kits for us to be doing COVID-19.

“Previously we used to do Laser Fever and you know all of them are viral diseases with different reagents (test kits) and that is what they did; to activate our own to do COVID-19.

Abia and Ebonyi states are yet to record a case while Enugu remains at 2 cases.
