Poor handling of refuse disposal and evacuation in Owerri metropolis by ENTRACO may have forced Governor Hope Uzodinma to set up a committee on evacuation of refuse in the Municipality.
Mountains of refuse dumps had surfaced in some areas in the state capital, particularly around World Bank Housing estate, Aladinma and part of Orji areas.
A refuse disposal company which was said to have been contracted to get rid of refuse had reportedly stopped work which led to the return of refuse in the city.
This also put a question mark on the ability of ENTRACO, the statutory body set up to get rid of refuse in the State capital.
Owerri residents had raised an alarm over the return of refuse dumps particularly at a period the contagious coronavirus is sweeping across the globe.
These poor sanitary conditions of the state capital compelled Governor Hope Uzodinma to set up a task force headed by the State Commissioner of Environment and other top officials, including the GM of ENTRACO, to keep the Municipality clean and rid it of filth.
