Covid 19 Slows Impending Internal Crisis In Imo PDP

The coronavirus pandemic seems to be slowing down a looming cold war in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State.

The bone of contention is the party structure, the left -over of the ward and local government congresses which took place before the covid 19 pandemic broke out.

The PDP in Imo State has remained a virile opposition party in the State, putting the APC led government on its toes by criticizing some of its policies.

It has not been rosy for the Uzodinma administration, as the party has continued to fire salvos at the present government as it marks 100 days in office.

However, the rearing issue in the party, is the disposition of some party chieftains, particularly an elder statesman not only in the party, but in the country and a former governorship aspirant in the party, who are said to be displeased with the outcome of the congresses, and are still firing on all cylinders to reverse the situation.

This newspaper was informed that the duo had made protestations to the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, and other party leaders on the congresses where they complained how the entire party structure seems to be in the kitty of one particular politician in the party in the State.

This newspaper was informed that some leaders of the party party assured the elder statesman of “proactive steps to be taken to address the issue, any time the Coronavirus pandemic subsides”

A source in the know of ongoing development in the party told this newspaper that an impending crisis is looming in the party whenever the covid 19 pandemic slows down.

He said “The elder statesman has complained bitterly of this development to some top leaders of the party and even when he engaged in mutual discussions with the top politician on how ensure that party stakeholders make inputs into the party leadership during the congresses, nothing came out of it. He was simply ignored

The party congresses were marred with allegations of imposition and list writing as many party chieftains complained that they were excluded from the processes.

The State Congress is yet to take place.
