Covid 19: Panic In Owerri, Uzodinma Orders Testing Of Security Operatives Attached To Govt House

There is palpable tension in Owerri, Imo state capital after news of the index case of coronavirus spread like wild fire across the state.

Four days after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC listed Imo State with a confirmed case of the virus, no word has emanated from the State Governor, Commissioner of Health or Chairman, Covid 19 Prevention Committee.

A watchdog group, Imo Awareness Coalition, had advised the Governor to address Imolites on the index case.

This newspaper however learned that Governor Uzodinma has directed a compulsory covid 19 test for security operatives attached to the Government House.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and former Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Hon Uche Onyeagocha had claimed that one of the security details of the Governor was infected with covid 19.

THE PUNCH quoted the Imo State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, to have said the covid 19 compulsory tests for the governor’s security aides “is an ongoing thing. It is not as a result of the fallout of covid 19 which was confirmed in the state. It is an ongoing thing”
