Governor Hope Uzodinma has been advised to put in place measures to tackle the sudden hike in food items since the lockdown in the State over the coronavirus pandemic.

The Imo Awareness Coalition, a watchdog group, gave the charge in a statement in Owerri.

President of the group, Emmanuel Okwu said it observed an astronomical rise in the prices of food items immediately the State government announced a lockdown.

“Prices of food items such as Garri, Rice, yam have all increased by more than 100 percent.

“This is needless and unacceptable and a drain on the finances of the people who have been compelled to stay at home for weed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The State government should monitor this price hike by setting up a Body to ensure this exploitation is put to a halt.
