Recovering The Impaired Legislative Building. By BEN AHANONU

by admin

The imposing Imo Legislative edifice and symbol of our democracy, which is now an embarrassing sight to behold, should not be left to continue rotting away.

By every indication, the Imo legislative house is an architectural and building construction failure.

The previous government of Rochas Okorocha, actually bastardized the building through piecemeal and unprofessional renovation, which worsened its precarious state.

What’s more, that the state legislators cannot sit in this building often known as the People’s House, due to what can be fixed without delay, leaves much to be desired.

Year after year, the legislators deliberate on budget yet to them, the legislative building is of no consequence – what a shame!

They will rather talk about bumper financial packages and enhanced emoluments for themselves instead of insisting on capital projects that will outlive their spell in the legislature and capture them on the glorious side of history.

In view of the foregoing, I humbly call on our distinguished Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to kindly look into the ugly and embarrssing condition of the State Legislative building and save it from outright deterioration, which is much in keeping with his 3-point agenda of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery.

Candidly, I recommend that the entire legislative building should be demolished to make room for a new one that will be solid, enduring, well-conceptualized architecturally and constructed by an established building firm like Julius Berger – and this will save Imo from the detestable scenario.

Why successive legislators preferred to sit in temporary buildings that were not constructed and equipped for legislative purposes, is hard to decipher and that they should allow the edifice to decay inexorably smacks of willful legislative disservice to Imo people.

I am Apostle Ben Ahanonu.
