The Daniel Nwafor led faction of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State, is on the verge of collapse as members of the faction have aligned with the State caretaker Committee of the party led by Marcellinus Nlemigbo (Marcon)
The Nwafor led faction is mainly made up of supporters and loyalists of former Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Despite the Caretaker Committee led by Nlemigbo being instituted by the National Working Committee of the party as the authentic State Exco in the State, the Nwafor faction has continued to parade itself as the State executives of the party.
The faction had backed the governorship ambition of Rochas Okorocha’s son in law of Uche Nwosu, even when the latter joined the Action Alliance, AA, in furtherance of his guber bid after he lost the APC guber ticket to Hope Uzodinma.
With the emergence of Governor Hope Uzodinma as Governor of Imo State via the ruling of the Supreme Court on January 14, supporters of the Nwafor faction are now reaching out to the Nlemigbo caretaker Committee.
“The APC in Imo State is one family. There is no need for further division.
“We all celebrated the victory of Hope Uzodinma together, when he was declared as the rightful Governor of Imo State. There is no need for further decimation of the party” said a top member of the party who spoke on condition of anonymity.
It was gathered that the Nlemigbo caretaker Commitee has received the green light to accommodate everyone in the party in the State, irrespective of their leanings within the party during the scramble for the governorship ticket of Imo APC
The National Working Committee of the APC had directed the Nlemigbo caretaker Committee to re register returnee members of the party..
Nlemigbo is expected to convene a stakeholders meeting soon after cancelling a previous one to be held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri because of the coronavirus pandemic.
