Qualifying Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup and winning the Africa Cup of Nations, are twin major conditions contained in the new two and half years contract agreement between the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr.
The fresh deal between the NFF and Rohr, will keep the Franco- German in charge of Nigeria’s national senior football team, the Super Eagles after the 2022 World Cup.
Amaju Pinnick, President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, said in a statement via his social media handle, that the NFF do have confidence in the abilities of Mr. Rohr.
He made it clear that the Super Eagles participation in the World Cup in 2022 and winning the Nations Cup remains sacrosanct, pointing out Mr. Rohr is aware of this fact and also, the Minister of Youth and Sports is uncompromising about these new set objectives.
Rohr took over the Super Eagles in 2006. He took Nigeria to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where the Eagles performed impressively, placing third.
The statement in full: I’m happy to announce that the @thenff and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles. We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.”
