Aides appointed by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State are yet to receive portfolios or designations, 81 days after they were inaugurated by the Governor.

June 12, 2020, “Democracy Day” marked exactly 81 days, (2months and 22 days0, Governor Uzodinma inaugurated his Commissioners, Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.

They were inaugurated on March 23, 2020, at Ahiajoku International Convention Centre, Owerri.

Aside Commissioners who had received portfolios and designations, his Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, have remained idle.

The state government is yet to officially give reasons why after appointing the aides, they are yet to be given appointment letters/ designations.

There are speculations that the huge wage bill of the appointees could be one of the reasons why they are yet to get portfolios, considering the precarious economic situation in the country due to the covid 19 pandemic which led to a drop in allocation to the state.

Governor Uzodinma had come under criticisms for appointing large number of aides, not necessarily to offer expertise to aid him govern the State, but to reward his political foot-soldiers and loyalists who were part of his grueling battle to become Governor of Imo State.
