Court Frees Imo PDP New Media Director Accused Of Cyber Terrorism

The Federal High Court, sitting in Owerri, has granted bail to Mr.Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, New Media Director, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State.

According to a statement by the Acting State Secretary of the PDP, Ogu Bundu Nwadike, the order to release Nwaogwugwu who has been in DSS custody, was granted by Justice I.G Chukwunyere.

Nwaogwugwu was arrested and detained by the DSS on May 28, 2020, on allegations of defaming Governor Hope Uzodinma via his posts on facebook.

Counsel to Nwaogwugwu, Mike Ahamba (SAN), had filed an application urging the court to grant bail to the PDP New Media spokesman on the charged and offences which he was arrested, detained and arraigned by the DSS and the Owerri Magistrate Court were all nullity.

Counsel to the Attorney General, Barrister K.C Nwokorie who stood for the State Attorney General had opposed the application.

The presiding judge in his submission stated that he did not see any executional circumstances why the court will not exercise it’s judicial discretion to grant bail to the applicant moreso when the charges against Nwaogwugwu were bailable and within the discretion of the court.

The Court eventually granted bail to Nwaogwugwu with N500,000 with two sureties who must shoe evidence of land ownership, payment of two years clearance and to swear to an affidavit of means.
