More details emerged Monday how a good number of members of Imo State House of Assembly contracted covid 19.
Though an official response is awaited by the Task Force on Covid 19 on the development, news have been awash in Owerri that no fewer than 14 members of the State House of Assembly may have been infected by the virus after the index case was first reported last week.
There has been no independent verification of this claim.
The State Covid 19 task force led by Prof Maurice Iwu had closed the Assembly complex for fumigation and to carry out tests on aides of the lawmakers.
However, this newspaper learnt that the virus may have spread because it was observed that members use one microphone to speak during deliberations on the floor of the House. Because the virus spread via contact, there are increasing suspicion that the lawmakers may have easily got infected through the use of the microphone.
Before the virus infected the lawmakers, the House members had been re- located from the main Assembly complex because of its poor condition, to its temporary abode where it conducted the business of legislation.
An Owerri based newspaper claimed that some aides of the lawmakers have gone into isolation even when the results of their tests are yet to be released to them.
