The South East Awareness Coalition, SAC, a socio political group has said the quest by Igbo to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023, is “dead and buried’ within the confines of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Chuks Okoye, President of the group, recalled that the Coalition had raised an alarm recently lamenting that the ruling party will not hand an Igbo it’s Presidential ticket in 2023.
Speaking to newsmen in Enugu, Okoye said recent developments in the APC which culminated in the sack of the National Working Committee, NWC which was replaced by a Caretaker Committee, is an indication that the script to produce Buhari’s successor has no Igbo in the picture.
“We have credible proof that some powerful forces are favouring Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, for the presidency in 2023.
“The dissolution of the NWC led by suspended Oshiomole which cuts off the grip of Bola Tinubu on the party, in preference for Amaechi, is a ploy to possibly favour the much trumpeted Presidential bid of the former Rivers State Governor.
“The South East is not in the larger picture. It has never been. And we had said it over and over again. If Amaechi from the South South is favoured for the 2023 presidency, where does it leave the South East?
“The APC cannot claim it is in short supply of credible Igbo worthy to fly its presidential flag in 2023. There are three or four prominent Igbos in the APC who are most qualified to be favoured for the Presidency in 2023. Is Amaechi more qualified than Ogbonnaya Onu, Chris Ngige, Rochas Okorocha to be considered for the 2023 presidency
Okoye said the South East should not put it’s eggs in one basket in 2023, as latest events in the APC has shown that it has to begin now to define it’s political direction.
“APC is no longer a sure route for Igbo presidency. he stated.
